Yoga & Whitewater Kayak Retreat

A yoga practice is an incredible compliment to other high-paced, extreme sports. During this retreat, we'll use a physical yoga practice to help you balance out your weaknesses and strengths, protect your joints, and strengthen at a deeper level. We'll pay special attention to yoga anatomy, injury prevention, and recovery of fatigued or overused muscle groups. We'll also explore the mental side of extreme sports and yoga, as well as working on breath quality and control.

At the same time, dive into the world of whitewater kayaking under the instruction of professional whitewater kayak instructor, Brian Burger.

Brian Burger is a lifelong kayaker with experience paddling and coaching all over the world. Originally from Colorado, he honed his skills in the Pacific Northwest before traveling the globe as head coach for World Class Kayak Academy. Additionally, Brian has worked as the lead kayak instructor for Mountain Sports Kayak School and Cascadia Kayak School.

He loves connecting people with the river and helping them build and refine their skills to accomplish their goals!

After years of sitting in a whitewater kayak he discovered the benefits of yoga and looks forward to the opportunity to combine the two during this awesome week!

Whether you have river experience and want to enjoy the Petrohue river with support, safety, and coaching, or you're looking to try whitewater kayaking for the first time, the Petrohue River is the perfect school for kayakers of all levels. Not to mention, the stunning scenery and bright blue waters make an epic backdrop for days spent on the river.

Ensenada, Chile rests between two volcanoes, and the energy that can be felt here isn't found just anywhere. It's the perfect spot to escape to and simply breathe.

P.S. We want to hear from you about your kayaking experience and goals, and we'll tailor the week based on what each person needs. Whether you're just entering the world of whitewater, or looking to advance skills that you already have... we'll make sure that each day targets what YOU need.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

LODGING

6 nights private lodging in one of two large, rustic homes. The two homes are located side-by-side in the rural town of Enseanda, and each has one private double room with a connected private bathroom, as well as two shared rooms with twin beds and one shared bathroom. Common spaces include a comfortably decorated living room, and open kitchen with a large family-style table, and a large terrace and hottub with views of not just one, but two volcanoes! Spend the afternoon sun-bathing on the terrace, or walk down to the river and enjoy the four quartz massage beds.

If you're looking for more alone time, choose to rent our fairytale cabin. The fairytale cabin is located on the same creek-side property, but sits back in the trees and affords guests with more privacy. The fairytale house features breathtaking volcano views, a garden and koi pond, one bathroom, and a loft with a double bed. Take a dip in the wood-fired outdoor hottub and enjoy some alone time with a loved one!

All lodging options include internet access, free parking, and outdoor hottub use.

ALL MEALS

Three delicious meals a day, plus unlimited daily tea and coffee, fresh juices, and healthy snacks.

We use fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and provide healthy, balanced, and organic meal options. Most of our meal options are vegetarian, but if you have any other dietary restrictions please let us know, and we are happy to work with you!

DAILY YOGA CLASSES (7)

Your instructor, Adele, is Yoga Alliance certified, and holds several additional certifications in Yoga Anatomy. She specializes in working with athletes on mindful cross-training and injury prevention. Daily yoga classes will be a mix of hatha, vinyasa flows, and pranayama (breathing techniques). Based on the daily schedule, we may practice our yoga class or pranayama in the outdoors.

DAILY KAYAKING & INSTRUCTION (6)

We'll spend the majority of each day on the river supported by professional whitewater instructors. We'll swim, paddle, practice, and learn how to navigate and enjoy rivers safely. We feel strongly about maintaining a low instructor:boater ratio so that everyone feels supported in the river at all times, and so we can tailor the days activities to each boater's needs. If you have access to your own gear, that's great. But traveling with kayak gear can be a challenge, so we're happy to provide you with a boat and paddle that fit your size and ability.

PERSONAL CONSULTATION

Begin your trip with a chat with your yoga teacher and kayak instructor. Ask questions, define your goals, and let your teachers know about any injuries you have or anything specific that you are working toward.

TRANSPORTATION

We provide transportation to and from the airport in Puerto Montt. All daily transport to and from activities is also included.
